Finding inspiration for the New Year

November 1997… 15 years ago the first Rietmark booklets appeared in the post boxes of Rietondale, Riviera and Deerness. From the start our slogan was ‘local is lekker’ and our inspiration the local neighbourhood businesses and service providers.

November 2012… at the end of another year, and after 15 years with Rietmark, it gives us double the reason to reflect on times gone by and the way forward. What did we accomplish, and what we didn’t get around to doing.

Where will you find inspiration for the coming year, in your business and personal life? To begin with, think about which people and what events or experiences inspired you this year, what got you fired up and excited. Think about ways to expand on this, and then do something about it.

In one of the books by Robert Fulghum – “What on Earth Have I Done?” – the author starts the book with – as he calls them, the “Mother Questions”.

What on earth have you done?
What do you think you’re doing?
What will you think of next?
Who do you think you are?

These questions are much more than just those a parent would ask a child – they are questions we should ask ourselves.

What have I done this past year? What am I doing now? What will I think of/plan for next year? And ‘who do I think I am’ is especially important to think about…..because who we are is wrapped up in all of those questions……because who we are guides us in our personal and professional lives, and colors every decision we make.

Where will you find inspiration for the coming year? If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking!
