From time to time one needs to sit back with a mug of coffee (or beer) and relax and think about what lies ahead – what you want for yourself – and afford yourself the luxury of dreaming about the future – to dream and to think big – to think out of the box!
Paul J Meyer said that anything that you ardently desire, vividly imagine and enthusiastically work upon, must inevitably come to pass. It all starts with desires and dreams. The desire must of necessity be followed up by imagining and visualising what it is that you want to achieve. You must have a clear picture in your mind of the results or benefits of your efforts. You must imagine yourself an achiever, a champion, a millionaire, or whatever. You must dream about it. Napoleon Hill said you can never have riches in great quantities, unless you can work yourself into a white heat of desire for money, and actually believe you will possess it. Finally, you must see yourself being a rich person. You must dream about it. This applies to any desire and goal.
Every person must, at some time or other, dream about the future, dream about success and achievements. Another way to put it is that you must have a vision of whatever you desire. Thomas Edison dreamed of a lamp that could be operated by electricity. He began to put this dream into action and despite the fact that he literally had thousands of failures he stood by that dream until he made it a reality. This could be called practical dreaming.
Dreams must be put into action. One must not only dream for the sake of dreaming. It must be followed up with action plans and hard work. But you cannot start with the hard work if you do not have the dream or vision first. The right state of mind must be established before you will be able to work hard and to persevere.
If you desire something, you must also believe that you will get it. Psalm 37:4 reads: “Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He shall give you the desires of your heart.” Robert Schuller, the famous preacher, went on to say that faith is a choice, it is a decision; it is a commitment; it can be defined as wanting more out of life. He gives a word of warning: “Be careful what you want – you’ll get it!” Wanting is believing and believing produces results. Strong faith is the expression of deep desire. If you really want to achieve something special and you positively act on it, your dream should come true.
No success was ever achieved without a dream and a vision. You must have dreams and you must have big, big dreams!
To dream big also means to think big. Think big and dream big. The bigger your dream, the more optimistic and ambitious your dream, the better your chances will be of achieving big. Small dreams do not lead to big achievements. No dreams will lead to no achievements. David Schwartz said: “Think big and you will live big. You’ll live big in happiness. You’ll live big in accomplishment. Big in income, big in friends, big in respect.”
It is not always easy to think big. All of us, more than we realise, are, to some extent, the products of our environment. If we grow up in an environment where small thinking is the order of the day, it will be more than likely that we will also think small.
The broad stream of mediocrity has an enormously strong power to suck up all of those around it. It sucks you up and takes you with it – along with many, many others. It is often the case when the thinking around you is small and you should think big, that people might frown on you and might criticise you for being so arrogant to think you can become somebody; that you can dare to think you are better than they are.
On the other hand, if you are surrounded by people who think big, it is only natural that you will also think big. There will be more appreciation for your own visions, your dreams and your ideals. You will get more support, more respect and more understanding. You must create the type of environment for yourself that will be conducive to big thinking. And you must not only create that environment, but you must actively nurture your ideals, dreams and goals. This may be regarded as the first phase in programming yourself for success.
You can be assured that all the successful people in this world started by having desires, dreams and by thinking big! You can also be one of them – start dreaming, start thinking big, if you have not done so already!
