December holidays – advertise now to profit later!

October  in  Pretoria means the first summer rains, blooming Jacarandas, kids writing exams ….and the nearing December holidays. For small business owners it means they should start executing their marketing plans to profit from the December holidays and even start thinking about back-to-school promotions for January 2011.

That’s right – you already should have planned your marketing campaign. However, you are quite a busy Rietmark advertiser and didn’t have time to even think about the December holidays…. is it really that time of year again? Or you’ve been thinking of advertising in Rietmark, but somehow just don’t get around to it.

If you haven’t started planning your advertising strategy yet, read here for three easy strategies to ensure that you will have some extra cash in the bank this December.

1. Get out your calendar and start planning now.

Have a look at special days or events in your area, and plan your communications accordingly. While you’re busy with the calendar, put in other important dates, such as closing and opening dates of the schools, public holidays, your special promotional days and even your business meetings and year-end function.

Go to and write down the cut-off and distribution dates of Rietmark Moot, North and East booklets. Now you can plan each month advertising according to the Rietmark distribution dates. Remember, all monthly changes to your Rietmark adverts are totally FREE!!

    2. Decide what you are going to promote.

If you are selling products, have a look at your best-selling products and keep on promoting them. Secondly, if you have products on hand that look promising for the holiday season, start promoting  them too. Also do some research on the internet, ask your family and friends, and look for articles that predict trends for the holiday seasons – then stock up on some new products to keep your offering exciting.

If you are delivering a service, remember that a lot of your competition closes down between Christmas and New year, and even longer than that. Our Rietmark advertisers that stay open during these times tell us that it can get very busy in some sectors – so why not extend your trading hours during the holidays? You can always go on holiday during a quiet period of the year. So promote your service by announcing your extended or open times and throw in a holiday discount!

      3.  Adjust your budget.

This time of year is not the time to skimp on your advertising expenditure.  Since you are not the only business hoping to reap benefits from the holiday season, it is critical to boost your advertising efforts during the holiday season. As the old adage goes, “You need to spend money to save money”. By preparing your business for an increase in costs, you’re also improving your chances of increasing your revenue.

What about doubling the size of your ads in Rietmark during the next three months? It gives your ad more impact and you have extra space to market your special promotions. Chances are that it works so well that you just keep on with the new sized ad during 2011.

Contact Rietmark today to discuss your  marketing needs – the cut-off date for the October editions is 20 September 2010. Rietmark will be an excellent choice for advertising in Pretoria Moot, North and East – we’ve been known for quality and integrity in advertising since 1997.
